Supported Employment Services assist individuals with disabilities in obtaining good jobs and becoming valuable employees, wherever they work. Employers, co-workers, and a Sycamore Employment Consultant (EC) provide the necessary support for people to be successfully employed in the community. An EC helps each individual client identify areas of interest for employment, finds jobs that match those interests, and works with the employer and the new employee for as long as necessary to ensure a smooth transition into the job.
Sycamore ECs help direct job search activities by learning about each person and basing services on individual interests, skills, and talents. The EC will assist with resume planning and provide input on interview techniques. Individual success is based on making appropriate job matches and providing on-site support as needed.
Getting Started
To access any of Sycamore’s employment services, an individual begins with a Vocational Rehabilitation (VR) Counselor. VR Counselors collect documents needed to verify eligibility for vocationally directed services. They may also assist in providing items needed to acquire or maintain a job. Offices of Vocational Rehabilitation are a part of the Family and Social Services Administration and have offices throughout the state.

Maintaining Employment
We know that successful employment relationships are built on the commitment of businesses, their employees, and Sycamore staff. Sycamore administrators work with community leaders to strengthen community support for people with disabilities by promoting and identifying suitable employment opportunities.
Each year, Sycamore sets goals to place as many people as possible in community employment, while striving to provide services that will promote the success of each individual and provide assistance as needed. Consultants may remain “on call” for employers and employees until a job situation has stabilized.
With support from Sycamore Services, many individuals with disabilities have succeeded in achieving long-term employment in the community. The success of these individuals demonstrates the commitment of local businesses, co-workers, and families to making our employment programs work for everyone. Companies are encouraged to contact any Sycamore Services location to ask questions and inquire about hiring possibilities.
