Foundational Skills Increasing Independence

At Sycamore Services ABA Opportunity Center our goal is to provide families and the children we serve with a welcoming and compassionate environment where we can work together to increase independence and enhance their quality of life.

Our Vision

At Sycamore Services ABA Opportunity Center our vision is to provide high quality services using evidence-based practices and a kind, trauma-informed approach. We strive to provide a fun, stimulating learning environment that capitalizes on personal strengths to teach individuals the foundational skills they need to succeed.

What is ABA?

Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is a research-based therapy approach that has been demonstrated to be the most effective for treating children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). ABA professionals study the science behind behavior, specifically the functions of behavior and how behavior is affected by the environment. ABA professionals build individualized treatment plans for every learner that focus on teaching new skills and replacements for challenging behavior.

ABA therapy aims to improve adaptive learning skills, communication, and behavior by utilizing repetition and reinforcement when teaching skills by breaking them down into smaller discrete steps that can be built upon over time as the child demonstrates success. Research based evidence shows that children with autism benefit from ABA therapy when a child receives 20-40 hours of ABA per week.

ABA involves many techniques that can be adapted to meet the needs of each unique learner. ABA emphasizes the focus on socially significant behaviors that will matter and are useful for that child’s everyday life. One of the main and most important strategies utilized in ABA therapy is the use of reinforcement. When a behavior is immediately followed by something of value to that individual, they are more likely to repeat that behavior in the future. By providing reinforcement immediately following the skills being taught and shaping their behavior to build upon developing skills, this encourages positive behavior change over time.

Why Sycamore Services ABA Opportunity Center?

At Sycamore Services ABA Opportunity Center we place a strong emphasis on therapy that uses the child’s interests and builds upon their strengths to help them acquire skills that will give them more options and choices in their life. Skills that will ultimately help them get joy out of their world. Teaching within the context of play and naturally occurring activities increases generalization of skills and makes them more valuable to the learner. By focusing on targeting socially significant behaviors through naturalistic instruction and acknowledging the emotions and humanity of every learner, we strive to help children and families achieve improved outcomes and an increased quality of life while making learning fun and rewarding.

What We Do

The fundamental ABA principles remain sound, and evidence-based, and at Sycamore Services we strive to take “today’s ABA” and build upon these structured interventions by focusing on compassion and cooperation rather than strict behavior elimination and compliance. At the ABA Opportunity Center we accept neurodiversity and acknowledge the reality that different children have different needs. The focus is not to “take away” autism, rather to give children the tools and skills they need to be more independent, safe, participate in society, and happy.
