Sycamore Services has received a Regional Initiative Grant from the Indiana Arts Commission to establish a new art program at its Indianapolis South facility, located at 10 W. Hanna Avenue. Sycamore Services primarily serves individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The organization is developing Art Experience Days that will provide program participants with a choice of multiple class opportunities, available once each month, including ceramics, paint on canvas, 3-D art and more. The Art Experience Days will be led by professional artists from the surrounding community and Art Therapy graduate students from the University of Indianapolis. Sessions will be offered on the first Thursday of each month, beginning October 3, at 10 W. Hanna Avenue. Each session will have open space for the general public to participate in Art Experience Days.

“This new opportunity will allow our program participants to engage in an inclusive art program that they might not otherwise have access to,” says Christian Condra, Day Services Coordinator for Sycamore Services Indianapolis South. “Art can help our program participants get in touch with their creative side, enhance their confidence and enthusiasm for developing new interests and skills, and improve their overall wellbeing. We appreciate the Indiana Arts Commission’s recognition of the importance of this program and are grateful for their support.”

Later this summer, Sycamore Services will make registration for its Art Experience Days available through its website at SycamoreServices.com.
