April 2025 – Sycamore Services recently concluded a comprehensive community survey, gathering valuable feedback from over 300 stakeholders, including staff, board members, service recipients, and community partners. The results offer a clear and candid picture of the organization’s strengths and areas for growth as it looks ahead to future planning.
A Strong Foundation in Mission Alignment
One of the most encouraging findings was the high level of alignment with Sycamore Services’ mission. An impressive 76.8% of staff indicated they believe the organization is living up to its core values. External stakeholders echoed this sentiment, particularly praising the employment services and job coaching programs. This shared sense of purpose provides a solid foundation as the organization works to expand and improve.
Opportunities for Enhanced Communication
However, the survey also highlighted areas in need of improvement—chief among them, communication. Thirty-four percent of staff identified communication as a significant challenge, pointing to the need for better interdepartmental coordination, stronger connections across service locations, and clearer information about available resources. Improving communication will be a central focus in the coming months.
Addressing Transportation and Accessibility Barriers
Transportation emerged as the top concern among external respondents, while accessibility challenges were frequently cited by staff and leadership. Issues ranged from vehicle accessibility to scheduling and geographic limitations, all of which directly affect Sycamore Services’ ability to promote full community integration for the individuals it serves.
Workforce Development Remains a Critical Priority
The survey results underscored the vital importance of workforce development. Sixty-three percent of leadership noted staffing shortages, with many respondents emphasizing the need for improved employee retention, training, and career development opportunities. Strengthening and supporting staff will be a key element of the organization's long-term strategy.
Looking Ahead
These survey insights will play a critical role in shaping Sycamore Services’ upcoming strategic planning initiatives. By listening to the voices of its community, the organization is better equipped to build on its successes and tackle its challenges with purpose and clarity.
“We are deeply grateful to everyone who took the time to share their experiences and perspectives,” commented CEO, Yolanda Kincaid. “Your feedback has given us the direction we need to ensure that Sycamore Services continues to support individuals with developmental disabilities in living their best lives.”
Stay tuned for updates as we continue this important work-together.
