OUTCOMES

WORK SERVICES

At Sycamore Services Danville Work Center, consumers learn job skills and improve work habits that will assist them in obtaining a community based job, or increase their productivity and ultimately their income.  Throughout 2010, 70 individuals earned wages as contracts were completed for outside vendors.  As individuals improve job skills they are referred to Vocational Rehabilitation and Sycamore's Employment Program to obtain assistance in finding a community based job. In 2010, there were as many as 13 people who combined a community based job with a Work Center job to give them a full work week.

Regular contract jobs provided consumers with "learn as you earn" opportunities.  Each job is broken into steps and all consumers are given an opportunity to work at their greatest level.  Staff are available to provide training or accommodations as needed.

Pre-vocational training occurs in the Work Center each day so participants can improve skills in the following areas:

                     Light Assembly              Packaging                     Shrink Wrapping
Collating and sorting      Labeling and tabbing      Gluing, taping, stapling

The Work Center regularly produces mailing jobs for our own shop, Sycamore Print Center.  We also sponsor a mobile community-based crew that provides janitorial services to local businesses and churches and several Sycamore locations.

With Sycamore's purchase of a local print shop, we can now provide consumers with real job training. A select group of consumers work at the print shop when needed.  Many of the jobs are brought to the center to provide all consumers with job opportunities.  New vendors and jobs from existing vendors resulted in a participant payroll of $68,435 for the year.
