Serving Children……Serving our Community…..Serving the Future

The Children’s Services department focuses on supports for children and their families.  This includes early intervention therapies through the Indiana First Steps system.  We use individualized strategies to assist children at risk for or with developmental delays – helping every child reach his or her full potential.

 PATHS Before/After School Program

In collaboration with the Danville School Corporation, the PATHS program was created so that children can participate in educational activities in a non-traditional setting while focusing on increasing their overall academic performance.

  • Emphasis on One-to-One Tutoring and Peer Interaction.
  • All children are considered regardless of academic level or learning abilities.

To participate in the Indiana First Steps program, those children, ages birth to three years old, should fall in one of these three categories:

  • The child is experiencing a developmental delay
  • The child has a diagnosed condition that has a probability of resulting in a developmental delay
  • The child is at risk of developing a delay if early intervention services are not provided.

Children may be referred to the system from their doctor, hospital staff, other social service agencies, or by the parent.  To make a referral anyone can call 317.257.2229.

Sycamore’s eligibility determination team will come out to the child’s home and perform an evaluation on the child’s progress.  The family will be assisted in choosing providers for planned therapies which include:

Sycamore served 248 children in 2006. Many received a variety of services.

  • Speech Language Pathology
  • Physical Therapy
  • Nutrition Services
  • Transportation
  • Social Work Services
  • Developmental Therapy
  • Family Education
  • Vision services
  • Assistive Technology Services
  • Nursing
  • Audiology
  • Diagnostic Medical Services
  • Occupational Therapy
  • Psychological Services

Therapists meet with the family and their service coordinator, to review the child’s service plan every six months to confirm that quality therapies are provided and appropriate interventions are being followed.

Therapists continue to educate themselves and improve their ability to meet the needs of your child.  Individualized Family Service Plans are based on your child’s current developmental needs, no two therapy plans are the same.
