Direct Support Professionals (DSP)

Direct Support Professionals assist individuals others who need extra help to be self-sufficient. DSP's provide this support to people at home or their neighborhoods and communities. Individuals have different types of needs from physical support to assistance in daily living.

Brief classroom training followed by on-the-job training is provided for all DSP's.

Team Lead

Assist persons with disabilities in pursuing their personal futures and goals through residential supports and community integration.  Assist with the design, implementation and monitoring of support plans to ensure meaningfulness.  Is responsible for staff supervision, and coordination of day-to-day activities within assigned residential locations.   Reviews documentation to ensure progress is being accomplished toward ISP goals for individuals assigned.  Act as a mentor and support to the positions supervised by providing training and development to ensure successful outcomes for people served.    Maintain case records and documentation for persons/locations assigned, including consumer-specific financial and medical records.  Uphold and promote the agency’s mission statement.

Recreation Therapist

[ Download position summary (PDF, 19 kb) ] Works in collaboration with other members of the IST, designs and implements a recreational intervention plan which is tailored to each individual and his/her daily activities.  Utilizing the APIE standards, the Therapist will consider input from other IST members as well as the individual served, conduct a standardized assessment and develop a therapeutic program targeted towards each individual’s needs and identified goals. The Therapist will provide treatment services and recreation activities for individuals using a variety of techniques in an effort to improve and maintain the physical, mental, and emotional well-being of their clients so that they can enjoy greater independence. Techniques can include arts and crafts, sports, games, dance and movement, drama, music, and community outings.  The Therapist will document the consumer’s progress during activities. Therapists will uphold and promote the agency’s mission statement. 

Must possess the following:

  1. Bachelor’s degree or higher with a major in Therapeutic Recreation or a major in recreation or leisure with an option in Therapeutic Recreation; or Bachelor’s degree or higher in any major with a minimum of five years full-time paid work experience in Therapeutic Recreation services; or Bachelor’s degree or higher in any major with a minimum of one year of full-time paid work experience in Therapeutic Recreation services under the supervision of a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS).
  2. Have a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) credential by the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification (NCTRC)
  3. Minimum of 1 years experience working with persons with disabilities required.
  4. Demonstrated ability to teach others. 
  5. Knowledgeable in the development of Individual Service Plans.  Must demonstrate sound understanding of Community Integration, and the ability to work effectively within human service systems
  6. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  7. Work non-standard/flexible schedule
  8. Valid driver’s license and dependable transportation.
  9. Ability to lift a minimum of 35 pounds; upper body leverage strength required.

Employment Consultant

[ Download position summary (PDF, 19 kb) ] Employment Consultants will develop employment opportunities and coordinate with employers the hiring, training, and necessary on-going supports required by individuals with disabilities to maintain employment.  Facilitate positive relationships between co-workers with and without disabilities to ensure successful employment and to maximize opportunities for lasting relationships.   Assist and support people with disabilities in gaining citizenship, involvement in their communities, and the development of friends and supports outside of the human service system.

Must possess the following:

  • Bachelor's degree in Rehabilitation, Special Education, Public Relations, or closely related discipline, five years experience in human services related to people with disabilities, or a combination of education and work experience equaling five years. 
  • Knowledge of Supported Employment, Social Role Valorization, and/or direct experience in job development, task analysis, data collection, job analysis, and work site training is preferred.
  • Membership in professional, business, or community organizations is an asset.
  • Demonstration of excellent verbal and written skills.
  • Must be able to keep accurate documentation.
  • Valid driver’s license needed to provide effective transportation to work sites.
  • Work non-standard/flexible hours.
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 35 pounds:  upper body leverage strength required.

Children’s Services, Therapists

Van Driver

Transport individuals as assigned, providing assistance as necessary. At all times, ensure the safe operation of the vehicle, including safe boarding and unloading of passengers. Drivers must have the ability to complete daily pre-trip inspection and accurately complete service logs. Good driving record, valid driver’s license and ability to obtain a public passenger chauffeur’s license required.
