Day Programs

Day programs offer adults who have developmental disabilities with training designed to build or improve personal skills through structured educational and recreational activities.  Activities are based on individual goals identified through our person centered planning process.  Sycamore offers day activities in Marion, Morgan and Hendricks counties.

Partners in Progress

Working with St. Vincent New Hope several years ago, Sycamore opened a program to help provide beneficial day programming for persons living in any of St. Vincent New Hope’s residential settings.  The two agencies saw the partnership as an opportunity to provide service options not previously offered.  On an average, 50 people a month participate in Partners’ activities.

Finding this lack of programming and successfully filling it, gave us better insight to similar needs in other areas of Indianapolis.  In January 2007, Sycamore opened its newest day program on the near south side of the city.  Located at 865 South East Street, it is easily accessible from 465.   Enrollment is currently open and anyone interested in attending should contact Patti Sebanc, Director of Research and Development, who is currently managing the new service.  Patti played a primary role in the development of both Indianapolis programs and has made a personal commitment to promoting their success.

STEPS

In Danville, Sycamore sponsors a day program at 1001 Sycamore Lane.  Providing Support, Training and Education for Personal Success, this program works in conjunction with our Work Center, located at the same site, to identify persons who might benefit from vocational training and present opportunities to earn.  Some participants may be referred for job development and community employment.  Others benefit from math and reading exercises that improve their abilities to be more independent in the home and community.

PALS

Participating in Activities for Lifelong Success, for Morgan County residents, is the longest running of Sycamore’s day programs.   Many of the individuals enrolled in PALS also hold jobs in the community with the support of Sycamore Employment Consultants.  This group plays an active part to improve the environment in their community by volunteering at nursing homes, purchasing and preparing holiday gifts for those in need, and assisting with purchase and collection of pet food for the local humane society.
